Sponge Iron

At JR Metal, we produce premium-grade Sponge Iron (Direct Reduced Iron – DRI) through a dedicated manufacturing facility located in Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh. Strategically positioned near Bellary, this plant benefits from proximity to major iron ore mines, ensuring steady access to high-grade raw materials and optimizing logistics efficiency.

Our Sponge Iron is produced using high-quality iron ore and non-coking coal in a controlled reduction process. It is widely recognized for its high metallization, low impurities, and excellent thermal consistency, making it ideal for use in electric arc and induction furnaces.

Key Features & Advantages

High Metallization

Our sponge iron boasts a high percentage of metallic iron, resulting in better furnace productivity and consistent melt quality.

Low Impurities

With minimal levels of sulphur and phosphorus, our DRI supports cleaner steelmaking and reduces slag generation.

Improved Energy Efficiency

Sponge iron reduces power consumption per ton of steel produced, lowering operational costs.

Enhanced Yield & Recovery

Offers better control over carbon content and minimizes loss during melting.

Environment-Friendly Alternative

Compared to traditional blast furnace routes, DRI is a more energy-efficient and eco-friendly solution for steel producers.

Applications

  • Used as a primary feedstock in induction furnaces (IF) and electric arc furnaces (EAF)
  • Ideal for manufacturing TMT bars, billets, and structural steel
  • Suitable for foundry applications where clean input material is essential
