Clean Energy Mission – Solar Power Plant
At JR Metal, our commitment to sustainability goes beyond compliance - it defines the way we operate. As part of our vision for energy-efficient and environmentally responsible manufacturing, we have established a 34 MW Solar Power Plant in Thatchur Village, Arani Taluk, Tiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu.
Spread across 100 acres of non-agricultural land, this utility-scale solar facility supports our steel manufacturing operations through clean, renewable energy, reducing our reliance on conventional power and significantly lowering our carbon footprint.

Project Overview
The 34 MW (AC) Solar Power Plant is located at Survey Nos. 159/1 to 244/9A, along Mottur Road, Thatchur Village, Arani Taluk, Tiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu – 632326. Spread over approximately 100 acres of non-agricultural land, the plant operates under a Group Captive arrangement through Wheeling of Power under the Non-REC scheme in the Intra-State Open Access system. Power generated from the facility is evacuated through a 110 kV transmission line to TANGEDCO’s 110/33 kV Thatchur Substation, and is fully dedicated for captive consumption. The electricity supplied to the state grid is adjusted against our actual usage at our steel manufacturing unit in Gummidipoondi, thereby meeting more than 50% of our total power requirement.
Technical Highlights
- Solar Module Type: Mono-crystalline (540 Wp)
- Mounting System: Fixed-tilt galvanized structures
- Inverter Type: ABB 4.17 MW outdoor inverters

Green Impact and Future Plans
Our solar plant helps us avoid over 60,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually, contributing meaningfully to climate goals and sustainable industrial development. It serves as a benchmark for responsible energy sourcing in heavy manufacturing.
We are actively exploring additional solar projects, with a firm goal of becoming a 100% clean and green energy-powered enterprise in the near future.
